The first step in that direction is to identify your tribe – your innermost circle of people whose voices matter – and cut out the rest of the clutter. If within that circle too, there are voices that put you down, make you feel uncomfortable in your skin or belittle you, use your rational thoughts to understand why that opinion matters to you and whether it is valid. If not, have a conversation with your loved ones – be it a partner, parent, sibling or friend – about how their comments made you feel. At the same time, start a discourse on expectations of a woman today and the pressure to be the perfect woman with people in your tribe to make them see how these societal pressures on females are nothing but a creation of centuries of patriarchal conditioning. All of these are crucial elements that can put you on the path of self-love. Without self-love and confidence, you continue to reel under a silent inferiority complex that causes you to make inferior relationship choices, treat yourself as subservient to your partner and constantly live with the feeling of not being good enough. These biases can then be passed on to children, setting in motion a vicious cycle. These are some of the reasons why self-love is important. Remember, being you is a superpower. Unlock it!
